Biography

Simone Mahrenholz is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Manitoba. Prior to her appointment in 2011, she taught at Freie Universität Berlin and the University of Europe for Applied Sciences. Mahrenholz studied concert piano professionally at Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien in Hannover. Her research specializations include the relationship between epistemology and aesthetics, philosophy of music, and the exploration of creativity within the arts. She has authored two monographs on the relationship between epistemology and aesthetics and has published approximately 40 book chapters and journal articles covering topics such as epistemology, symbolism, aesthetics, and media theory. Mahrenholz's additional roles have included being a visiting researcher at prestigious institutions like UC Berkeley and Tel Aviv University. She founded the UMIH Interdisciplinary Research Cluster, focusing on the transformative experiences related to death. Her diverse research interests also extend to the historical aspects of continental and analytic philosophy, with an emphasis on key philosophers such as Leibniz, Kant, and Husserl.
