Biography

Simone Osthoff is a Professor in the Critical Studies at the School of Visual Arts at The Pennsylvania State University, where she also serves as the co-director of S 3 A—Studio Sustainability Social Action. A Brazilian-born artist and writer, Osthoff explores canonical histories and archives, focusing on Brazilian women in media art and conducting in-depth inquiries into the works of Hélio Oiticica, Lygia Clark, Paulo Bruscky, and Eduardo Kac, along with the philosophical perspectives of Vilém Flusser. She holds a Ph.D. from the European Graduate School, an MA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and an MFA from the University of Maryland. Osthoff has lectured extensively at museums, universities, and symposia worldwide. Her writings, which have been translated into eight languages, have appeared in renowned journals such as 'Leonardo,' 'Flusser Studies,' and 'Art Journal.' Osthoff has authored several book chapters published by leading presses and is part of the editorial team of 'Flusser Studies.' Her artwork is included in the collections of prestigious museums and has been exhibited in notable venues, including the Chicago Cultural Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art São Paulo.
