Dr. Sine Svenningsen

Biography

Sine Lo Svenningsen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen. Her research focuses on the intersection of molecular biology, genetics, and mathematical modeling to address fundamental questions in microbiology—specifically in the areas of bacterial growth physiology, RNA-based gene regulation, and the interactions between bacteria and bacteriophages. She has made significant contributions to understanding how bacterial cells adapt to starvation and exposure to antibiotics and viral predators. Throughout her career, she has been actively involved in academic leadership and editorial roles, such as serving on the editorial board of scientific journals and reviewing grant proposals for various foundations. Sine has also received several awards for her teaching and educational contributions, including being nominated for a national teaching award. She has supervised multiple PhD and MSc students, emphasizing her commitment to education and the advancement of scientific knowledge.
