Biography

Sinead Keaveney is an Honorary Lecturer at Macquarie University. Her research focuses on metal catalysis, utilizing sustainable and efficient methods to synthesize organic compounds relevant to the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. With a strong emphasis on environmentally friendly approaches, Sinead develops practical catalytic methods for industrial-scale synthesis. She has a keen interest in rationally designing new catalysts to facilitate high-value chemical transformations. Her background includes postdoctoral research at RWTH Aachen University, where she worked closely with Prof. Franziska Schoenebeck. Sinead's academic journey culminated in a PhD from UNSW Australia under the supervision of A/Prof Jason Harper. She employs various approaches, including mechanistic studies, kinetic analyses, and computational modeling, to guide catalyst design and enhance the understanding of chemical reactivity. Sinead also supervises undergraduate and higher degree research (HDR) students, providing them with hands-on experience in organometallic synthesis and analytical techniques such as NMR spectroscopy and GC-MS. Her commitment to sustainable chemistry and innovative research continues to influence her teaching and mentorship at the University of Wollongong and Macquarie University.
