Biography

Siobhán McIlvanney is a Professor in French Francophone Women's Writing at King's College London. She graduated with an MA in French and German from the University of Glasgow and completed her D.Phil. at Queen’s College, Oxford. Joining the Department of French at King's in 1994, she focuses on contemporary French and Francophone women's writing, including narratives on aging and care, and the representations of women in early French women's press. McIlvanney has published extensively, including her monograph 'Figurations Féminine: Early French Women's Press, 1758-1848', which was shortlisted for the R. Gapper Book Prize. She is involved in significant research projects, external assessments for the Irish Research Council, and is a co-editor of the De Gruyter series titled 'Cultures of Aging and Care'. Her contributions to literary studies have earned her accolades, including the Modern & Contemporary France article of the year award in 2023. McIlvanney actively mentors prospective PhD students and teaches various courses at both BA and MA levels, promoting knowledge in French Francophone literature and culture.
