Biography

Siobhan Powell is a Senior Researcher Group in Sustainability Technology (SusTec) at ETH Zurich, focusing on decarbonization and electricity transportation, particularly in relation to improving the grid impacts of electric vehicle (EV) charging. She joined the group in September 2022 and has supported the ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowship as part of the SNSF Ambizione Grant project "Data-POETRY," aimed at understanding EV policies and their household-level impacts. Siobhan's doctoral research involved studying driver behavior and the impacts of charging infrastructure networks on EV charging demand. She developed the SPEECh model, which stands for Scalable Probabilistic Estimates of Electric vehicle CHarging, during her Ph.D. studies in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University. Her work has been closely aligned with projects involving the California Energy Commission and the Bits & Watts Initiative at the Precourt Institute for Energy. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Siobhan also holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics & Engineering from a joint program in Applied Math at Stanford.
