Biography

Professor Siqian Shen earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Tsinghua University, China in 2007 and completed his PhD at the University of Florida in 2011. He joined the faculty in Fall 2011, focusing on research in integer programming, stochastic programming, and network optimization. His models consider stochastic parameters and discrete decision variables. Shen aims to achieve optimal solutions that balance immediate benefits with long-term gains while maintaining cost-effectiveness and operational risk. His research has significant applications in risk analysis and optimization across various fields, including energy, healthcare, cloud computing, and transportation systems. His work has been supported by prominent institutions such as the National Science Foundation, the Army Research Office, the Department of Energy, the Department of Transportation, Ford Motor Company, and DiDi ChuXing. Currently, he serves as the Associate Director of the Michigan Institute for Computational Discovery and Engineering (MICDE) and has received the Department of Energy (DoE) Early Career Award and the IBM Smarter Planet Innovation Faculty Award.
