Dr. Siv Britt Björktomta

Biography

Siv-Britt Björktomta completed her thesis in 2012, which focused on patriarchy and resistance through young girls' movements in social spaces. She joined Uppsala University in 2016, and in the academic year 2017/18, she became the director of the newly formed Center for Social Work (CESAR), leading the development of operations including social work programs and both master's and doctoral education in social work. By the academic year 2022/23, CESAR transitioned into its own department. Dr. Björktomta has extensive experience in teaching social work, particularly in areas related to her research, which includes qualitative research methods and professional skills for social workers. Her research emphasizes children and young people's family relations, with a particular focus on the forms of violence associated with parental authority and power. A new research area encompasses the development of digital society and how social welfare services are adapting to the challenges posed by the digital age, which influences social workers' interactions with children and young people. Björktomta is a member of the research group Professional, Prevention, Practice Research, where she addresses the social dynamics of the digital society and its implications for the psychosocial health of children and young people.
