Biography

Sjoerd Stallinga obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1995 from the University of Nijmegen after graduating in 1993 with a theoretical study in liquid crystal physics. He worked from 1995 to 2008 as a senior scientist and project leader at Philips Research Eindhoven, where he contributed to the optics of LCDs and the standardization of the Blu-ray Disc format, focusing on optical design and digital pathology technology for whole slide imaging systems. In 2009, he joined Delft University of Technology as an associate professor in the Department of Imaging Physics, and he was promoted to full professor in 2018. His current research interests include the analysis, design, and realization of computational optical imaging systems, with applications particularly in biomedical imaging, microscopy, optical nanoscopy, and digital pathology. He has published 68 peer-reviewed papers, 24 Philips internal publications, and is an inventor on 36 granted patents.
