Biography

Smriti Raichand is a Research Fellow at the Macquarie University Centre for Health Economy (MUCHE), having joined in August 2023. She earned her PhD in Public Health from the University of New South Wales, focusing on the use of medicines during pregnancy by utilizing linked administrative healthcare datasets. The research employed pharmaceutical dispensing data and perinatal hospital admissions data to explore healthcare access during pregnancy. Previously, Smriti completed her Master of Public Health at the University of Sheffield in 2010 and worked as a Systematic Reviewer at the University of Birmingham in the UK, where she gained experience in conducting systematic reviews and Health Technology Assessments (HTAs). She has also worked on cohort studies related to maternal and child health in India. Before joining MUCHE, Smriti served as an analyst at the University of Sydney's Clinical Trials Centre, working on HTAs submitted to the Australian and Singaporean governments. Her research interests lie in evidence synthesis techniques and the analysis of linked healthcare datasets. In her current role, Smriti is involved in HTA projects commissioned by the Australian Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC).
