Sofi Jansson-Keshavarz is a PhD Candidate specializing in Welfare Law, focusing on the intersection of migration and welfare through the lens of critical border studies. Her PhD project examines the local bordering practices associated with the regime of temporary legality in Sweden, particularly how housing and education requirements are linked to residence permits at a municipal level. Sofi aims to understand the local variations in access to residence permits within the Swedish welfare state, family reunification, and how these are regulated. Her research delves into the roles of welfare workers, integration coordinators, school staff, and social workers as they negotiate these bordering roles. She has published in various anthologies and journals, including Critical Social Policy and the European Journal of Social Work. As a visiting scholar at the Center for Race and Gender at the University of California, Berkeley in 2023, she continues to expand her insights into local variations in migration policies. With a background in Global Development Studies and International Migration, she has also worked directly on issues concerning the municipal reception of unaccompanied refugee children in Sigtuna and Malmö and has been involved in asylum rights networks since 2011. Sofi has experience teaching in Bachelor's programs in Social Work and Social Cultural Analysis at the Division of Migration, Ethnicity, and Society (REMESO).
Requirements are standardized across the Faculty of Science and Engineering (Institute of Technology) for international Master's programs.
