Professor Dr. Sofia Björkbacka

Biography

Sofia Björkbacka is a PhD student in Rehabilitation Medicine at Umeå University. As a licensed physiotherapist, she focuses on neurorehabilitation, particularly for individuals with spinal cord injuries. Her research involves the development of a new digital pain rehabilitation program specifically designed for patients with traumatic spinal cord injury. This project is conducted in close collaboration with both patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring the program's feasibility and effectiveness through various stages of evaluation. Sofia also teaches in the Physiotherapy Program, where she emphasizes the transfer of techniques such as massage. Her work is dedicated to improving rehabilitation practices and outcomes for individuals recovering from serious neurological impairments.
