Biography

Sofia Calzada Orihuela earned her B.A. in Teaching Spanish Literature from Universidad Internacional Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, followed by an M.A. from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and a Ph.D. in Latin American Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park. Since joining the University of Michigan-Dearborn in 2013, she has been teaching college-level Spanish, primarily focusing on Spanish language, composition, and translation, as well as surveys of Latin American literature. Her research interests encompass colonial literature, 18th-century Mexican literature, early scientific periodicals, and translation.
