Biography

Dr. Sofia B. Lizarraga originally from Peru, received her PhD from Johns Hopkins University studying the assembly of the mitotic spindle under Dr. Yixian Zheng. She became fascinated by the role of the cytoskeleton in neuronal development during her postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School with Dr. Christopher Walsh. Dr. Lizarraga continued her research in neurodevelopmental disorders with a focus on autism at Brown University as an investigator under Dr. Eric M. Morrow. She launched her independent academic career at the University of South Carolina in 2015 and established a research program focusing on neuroepigenetics and autism pathogenesis. In 2023, she joined the faculty at Brown University.
