Biography

Sofia Pereswetoff-Morath is a university lecturer in Nordic languages at Stockholm University. Her research interests encompass Nordic philology, digital humanities, Viking Age and medieval epigraphy, graphematics, historical sociolinguistics, name research, and runology, with a particular focus on runes. She obtained her doctorate in 2017 with a dissertation titled “Vikingatida runbleck: läsningar och tolkningar” (Viking Age Runic Plates: Readings and Interpretations), which was published first in Swedish in 2017 and later in English in 2019. Sofia's work has been recognized with several awards, including the Otto von Friesen's prize and a scholarship from the Swedish Academy. She teaches primarily within the Nordic languages program with a historical focus at both basic and advanced levels, including courses on Viking Age texts, Medieval Swedish, Runology, and Onomastics. Sofia has participated in several international runological projects and is involved in research aimed at making Swedish runestones accessible to the public through a user-friendly application. In recent years, she has contributed to significant publications exploring various aspects of Runology.
