Biography

Sofia Ranchordás is a Full Professor of Administrative Law at Tilburg Law School and holds a part-time appointment as Professor of Public Law, Innovation, and Sustainability at Luiss Guido Carli in Rome. In 2022, she was awarded a five-year NWO-Vidi project to conduct research on the vulnerability of automated states from a comparative perspective. She is particularly interested in power asymmetries between governments and citizens and how digital technology can exacerbate and create new vulnerabilities in their interactions, as well as in empowering individuals through empathic approaches in law and technology. Her scholarly work has been published in leading law journals including Computer Law & Security and Duke Law Journal, and her book 'Introduction to Law and Regulation' (2nd edition, with Karen Yeung) is set to be published in December 2024 by Cambridge University Press. Ranchordás is a recognized expert in the regulation of digital transformation in the public sector and equity challenges, with extensive publications on innovation policy and regulatory sandboxes, and has received numerous awards and grants for her work.
