Dr. Sohrab Ismail Beigi

Biography

Sohrab Ismail-Beigi is a Professor at Yale Engineering with a focus on Applied Physics and Materials Science, and additional appointments in Mechanical Engineering and Physics. His research employs first principles computational methods to address both topical and fundamental questions in condensed materials theory and materials physics. Current research interests encompass a variety of areas including the growth strategies and properties of semiconductor-oxide interfaces, the chemistry and catalysis on transition metal oxide surfaces, and the electronic and structural properties of nanomaterials such as nanotubes and 2D systems. He has published extensively on topics such as ferroelectric oxide surface chemistry, orbital engineering in polar heterostructures, and the development of novel precursors for boron nanotubes. He has been involved in multiple significant projects that have both academic and practical implications, notably in the area of materials for energy applications and nanotechnology.
