Dr. Solmaz Ehteshami Afshar

Biography

Solmaz Ehteshami Afshar is a board-certified, fellowship-trained pulmonologist at Stanford Health Care and serves as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. She earned her MSc from the University of British Columbia, specializing in health economics, and completed her residency in internal medicine at Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Ehteshami Afshar furthered her training at Stanford University, pursuing fellowships in pulmonary critical care medicine and sleep medicine. Her clinical expertise lies in managing complex pulmonary conditions and sleep-related respiratory disorders, with a particular focus on patients with neuromuscular diseases. She diagnoses and treats acute and chronic respiratory failure, administering noninvasive home mechanical ventilation and managing disorders such as sleep apnea, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Dr. Ehteshami Afshar's current research interests include improving respiratory status in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and identifying novel treatment options for patients with tracheobronchomalacia. She has published her research in peer-reviewed journals and presented at various meetings.
