Biography

Solomon Hsiang directs the Global Policy Laboratory at Stanford University, where he integrates social science, natural science, and data science to understand and effectively manage global resources. Currently, he holds the position of Professor of Global Environmental Policy at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability. As a co-founder and co-director of the Climate Impact Lab, he is also a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a National Geographic Explorer. Hsiang's editorial contributions include co-editing the Handbook on Economics of Climate Change, and he is involved in Aerial History Project. Previously, he served as faculty at the University of California, Berkeley, in the Goldman School of Public Policy. In addition, he has played prominent roles in several national projects, such as leading the economics chapter for the Fifth National Climate Assessment and serving as Chief Environmental Economist for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where he oversaw the inaugural year of the United States natural capital accounting program. Hsiang's academic journey includes postdoctoral work at Princeton University and the National Bureau of Economic Research, as well as advanced degrees in Sustainable Development and Urban Studies from renowned institutions.
