Biography

Sommer Christie is an assistant professor in sport psychology at the School of Human Kinetics, University of Ottawa. She leads a sport psychology research lab, specializing in performance psychology, applied mental performance, psychophysiology (including biofeedback and neurofeedback), para-sport, and creating a culture of safe sport. Her dedication to shaping the next generation of scholars and applied mental performance consultants is evident through her teaching and mentoring approach. Professor Christie adopts a human-first philosophy, helping her students achieve their academic and personal goals while fostering a collaborative and safe classroom environment. As a Certified Mental Performance Consultant® (CMPC) and registered mentor, she brings a wealth of experience working with a variety of clients, including Olympic and Paralympic athletes, coaches, professionals, musicians, and surgeons. With extensive experience at the high-performance level, she supports athletes and teams at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Christie’s personal journey as a national-level rugby player, representing Canada in World Cups and international matches, underscores her commitment and passion for her field. She is currently accepting new students for thesis supervision, focusing on various topics in sport psychology and mental performance consulting.
