Biography

Son Truong is an Associate Professor in Therapeutic Recreation at the School of Health and Human Performance, Dalhousie University. He is also an Adjunct Fellow at the School of Education, Western Sydney University, Australia. With extensive experience working in diverse community settings such as mental health, early childhood education, and NGOs, he is recognized for his commitment to internationalizing the curriculum and enhancing student mobility through international service-learning. Over the past 15 years, he has led various international service-learning projects and has successfully obtained competitive grants to support higher education initiatives. Dr. Truong's interdisciplinary research, funded by internal and external research grants, focuses on play, recreation, and leisure to enhance wellbeing in underserved and vulnerable communities. His supervision includes graduate students in research areas like outdoor learning, motivation in outdoor leadership, and community play spaces. Dr. Truong has contributed to research that addresses children's experiences in outdoor active play and community greening initiatives.
