Dr. Sonia Cerquozzi

Biography

Sonia Cerquozzi completed her Internal Medicine Hematology training at the University of Calgary in 2015 and subsequently pursued an advanced hematology fellowship focused on myeloid disorders at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Since 2017, she has been practicing as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Hematology at the University of Calgary, where she treats patients with myeloid disorders, including acute myeloid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes. She is actively involved in clinical research, concentrating on myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) and is a member of the Canadian Myeloproliferative Neoplasm Group and the Canadian Cancer Trials Group, participating in various collaborative research initiatives to enhance patient care. Cerquozzi has contributed as a principal investigator in MPN clinical trials and has received funding for significant research projects aiming to understand and improve treatments for myeloid malignancies. Her work involves oversight of biobanking related to myeloid cancers and she has mentored hematology fellows in research methodologies, focusing on the collection and analysis of clinical data. Additionally, she is committed to translational research to identify molecular targets for future therapies, with an eye toward expanding her biobank efforts to include a broader range of myeloid malignancies.
