Dr. Sonia Exley

Biography

Sonia Exley joined the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) Department of Social Policy in 2011. She serves as the Programme Director for the MSc in International Social Public Policy and teaches a range of postgraduate and undergraduate courses. Dr. Exley's specialist area of research is education policy, with a particular interest in the marketization and privatization of education systems worldwide. She has published in a wide range of education and social policy journals including the Journal of Education Policy, Social Policy Administration, Policy and Politics, Oxford Review of Education, Comparative Education, British Journal of Educational Studies, and the Journal of Social Policy. Sonia holds a DPhil in Social Policy from the University of Oxford (Nuffield College) and prior to joining LSE, she was a British Academy postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Education, University College London (UCL). In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Sonia supervises doctoral studies focusing on issues such as marketization and privatization in education, social disadvantage and its relationship with education, governance, and the history of social policy administration.
