Dr. Sonia Gulati

Biography

Sonia Gulati is an Undergraduate Field Placement Advisor at Carleton University in the Health Sciences program. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and a PhD from Queen’s University, along with post-doctoral training from McMaster University. Her professional focus is on Disability, Global Health, and rehabilitation of children and youth with disabilities, alongside a commitment to community-based rehabilitation. Dr. Gulati has substantial clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist in various healthcare settings, emphasizing the importance of the therapist-client relationship. Her research interests encompass global health initiatives, particularly in underserved communities, therapeutic communication, and action research methodologies. She has conducted multi-centered research across Canada, particularly in pediatric oncology and immigrant health. As a faculty member in a rapidly evolving department, Dr. Gulati is passionate about curriculum design and experiential learning, having developed multiple innovative courses. In addition to her teaching and research, she actively supports health sciences education accessibility for students with chronic health conditions. Furthermore, she serves on various boards and committees, including the Board of Directors for Mental Health Without Borders.
