Dr. Sonia Gulati

Biography

Sonia Gulati is an Associate Professor in the Health Sciences department at Carleton University, where she also serves as the Undergraduate Field Placement Advisor. Her academic background includes a BScOT and PhD from Queen's University and a Post-Doctoral fellowship at McMaster University focusing on Pediatrics. With a clinical background as a registered Occupational Therapist, Sonia has extensive experience in hospital settings, particularly in rehabilitating geriatric patients and helping individuals with disabilities. Her primary research interests revolve around global health, community-based rehabilitation, and therapeutic communication for children and youth with disabilities, as well as action research methodologies. Throughout her career, Sonia has collaborated with organizations across several countries, including India and Trinidad, to enhance health service delivery for underserved populations. She is involved in various initiatives aimed at making field placement education accessible for students with chronic health conditions and disabilities. Sonia's commitment to community engaged pedagogy is evident in her role on Carleton's Committee on Community Engaged Pedagogy and as a delegate to the Eastern Ontario Academic Health Sciences Network. She is also a board member of Mental Health Without Borders, advocating for mental health issues on a global scale.
