Dr. Sonia Semenic

Biography

Sonia Semenic is an Associate Professor at the Ingram School of Nursing, McGill University, where she also serves as Program Director. With her RN and PhD credentials, Semenic boasts extensive expertise in maternal and child health, particularly as a nurse scientist at the McGill University Health Center. She has led knowledge translation initiatives and research programs focusing on evidence-informed practices in perinatal health, which employs mixed methods, case studies, and participatory research techniques. Semenic's research interests include breastfeeding promotion and support, implementation science in nursing, and the effects of cultural diversity on perinatal health behaviors. She is also a certified lactation consultant and has over a decade of experience as a clinical nurse specialist in maternal and child health, having completed her Master’s and doctoral degrees at McGill and University of Ottawa respectively. Semenic is a prominent member of the Quebec Nursing Intervention Research Network and has contributed significantly to shaping nursing best practices in neonatal intensive care and perinatal health policy decision-making.
