Biography

Dr. Sonia Taneja is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine and serves as a pediatric hospitalist at Boston Medical Center. She earned her Medical Doctorate (MD) from Yale School of Medicine and her Master of Science (MSc) in Public Health from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Dr. Taneja completed her pediatrics residency at Boston Combined Residency Program (BCRP) at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center, where she was Chief Resident, Diversity Chief Resident, and Global Health Chief Resident. Her clinical practice focuses on newborn pediatric hospital medicine with a commitment to health equity and advocacy for marginalized populations. Her research addresses social determinants of health, maternal and adolescent mental health, and access to HIV prevention services. Dr. Taneja is an accomplished educator, developing and leading health equity curricula and teaching medical students and residents on topics including structural racism and reproductive health. She is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Society for Adolescent Medicine, among other organizations.
