Biography

Sonja Ammann has been a Professor of the Old Testament at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Basel since 2017 and currently serves as Research Dean. From 2019 to 2024, she led the SNF-Eccellenza Project "Transforming Memories Collective Violence Hebrew Bible". Ammann studied Protestant Theology in Lausanne, Buenos Aires, and Heidelberg and obtained her doctorate in 2014 from Göttingen with a thesis on the thematic connections between God polemics and wisdom in the Old Testament. From 2012 to 2017, she was a Research Associate in the Chair for the History of Israel at the Humboldt University of Berlin. She is a member of several academic organizations including the Society of Biblical Literature and the European Association of Biblical Literature.
