Biography

Sonja Mapes received her PhD from Columbia University in 2009. Following her doctoral studies, she held a postdoctoral position at Duke University before joining the faculty at the University of Notre Dame, where she served from 2012 to 2022. In 2022, she joined the faculty at Northwestern University. Her research primarily focuses on monomial ideals and combinatorics. In recognition of her teaching excellence, she was awarded the Columbia University Presidential Teaching Award in 2009.
