Dr. Sonke Johnsen

Biography

Sonke Johnsen is the Ida Stephens Owens Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biology at Duke University, specializing in marine science conservation. His academic journey began with a B.A. from Swarthmore College, followed by a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has held various prestigious roles, including being a Faculty Network Member of the Duke Institute for Brain Sciences and actively participating in interdisciplinary initiatives such as the Duke Initiative for Science & Society. Johnsen's research interests are focused on visual ecology, examining how animals interact with and respond to visual stimuli in their environment.
