Dr. Sonya Brown

Biography

Sonya Brown is an Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). She specializes in aerospace design, particularly focusing on carbon composite materials and manufacturing technologies. Her research primarily revolves around the advancement of high-quality carbon composites, detailed structures systems design, and conceptual vehicle design. Sonya has been involved in several research projects exploring static fatigue characterization of composite materials, multifunctional composites, and the optimization of carbon fiber composite manufacturing processes. She actively collaborates with organizations such as Defence Science and Technology Group and Quickstep Technologies. Additionally, she is a Senior Member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society. Sonya is committed to education and actively seeks motivated PhD candidates in the areas of multifunctional composite materials. She is noted for her expertise in various aerospace topics, contributing to discussions on aircraft incidents and industry advancements.
