Biography

Sonya Onwu joined the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2017 as an Assistant Professor in Education. She completed her doctorate in Law at the University of Kent at Canterbury and has over 10 years of experience teaching LLB courses. Sonya has previously served as a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director at Canterbury Christ Church University and has moved on to become the Head of Law at Coventry University London. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has taught a wide range of law modules for over 15 years, covering subjects such as legal theory, medical ethics, human rights, family law, feminism, and race. At LSE, Sonya teaches Law Study Skills and Legal Ethics. She has been awarded SPARKS grants and is a recipient of the Inclusive Education Action Plan Fellowship, with a focus on decolonizing the Law School's curriculum. Her current work examines the role that foundational legal study skills play in upholding hierarchy and impeding efforts to decolonize law.
