Soonwon Choi was born in Seoul and raised in Daejeon, South Korea. He completed his undergraduate studies in physics at the California Institute of Technology in 2012 and obtained his PhD degree in physics from Harvard University under the supervision of Professor Mikhail Lukin in 2018. Following his doctorate, he worked as a Miller Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley before joining the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as an Assistant Professor in July 2021. His research interests primarily focus on exploring the dynamical phenomena that occur in strongly interacting quantum many-body systems far from equilibrium, as well as designing novel applications within quantum information science. Choi's research is characterized by a rich interplay of theoretical and experimental approaches, analytical theory, and numerical computations.
