Dr. Sophia Brueckner

Biography

Sophia Brueckner is a futurist artist, designer, and engineer based in Detroit, MI. She holds a Sc.B. in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from Brown University, an MFA in Digital + Media from the Rhode Island School of Design, and an MS from the Fluid Interfaces group at the MIT Media Lab. Her work explores the empowering and controlling aspects of technology within various domains such as computer programming, algorithms, user experience design, and tangible interfaces. Brueckner has taught innovative courses like Sci-Fi Prototyping at prestigious institutions including MIT, Harvard, RISD, Brown, and the University of Michigan, where her students' projects have gained international recognition. She has been featured in major publications like The Atlantic and Wired, and her work has been exhibited at events such as SIGGRAPH and TEDx. Currently, she serves as an associate professor at the University of Michigan's Stamps School of Art and Design and the School of Information, where she aims to inspire positive futures through the combination of design, engineering, and artistic perspectives.
