Dr. Koukoui's research primarily focuses on the mental health of migrants and refugees, specifically in relation to female genital mutilation (FGM) and excision in Quebec and internationally. She is the co-founder of Sensolia Foundation, the first multidisciplinary clinic in Canada for excised women. As a consultant for the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services, she developed a multidisciplinary training program for healthcare professionals on intervention strategies for excised women.
