Biography

Sophia Mcclennen is a Professor of International Affairs and Comparative Literature at Penn State University, where she also serves as the founding director of the Center for Global Studies. She has published twelve books, including her recent works such as 'Pranksters vs. Autocrats: The Dilemma of Actions to Advance Nonviolent Activism' alongside Srdja Popovic, and 'Globalization and Latin American Cinema: A New Critical Paradigm'. Her scholarly contributions exceed 70 essays and eight edited special issues in academic journals, emphasizing the intersectionality of culture, politics, and society. Her primary research interests lie in political satire, the millennial generation, and the effect of media on civic agency and national ideals, solidifying her reputation as a leading expert on satire, democracy, and the public sphere. Dr. Mcclennen regularly lectures on cultural identity and ethics while minimizing the role of cultural bias in conflicts. She has been a Fulbright Research Chair in Globalization and Cultural Studies and has taught in various countries, including Chile, Canada, and Germany. Mcclennen has received significant grant funding, totaling $4.5 million from various prestigious organizations, and maintains active involvement in shaping the future of academic freedom and professional rights through her roles in numerous editorial boards and associations.
