Professor Dr. Sophia Veltfort

Biography

Sophia Veltfort is a fiction writer, essayist, and scholar. Her short fiction has appeared in several prestigious publications, including Prairie Schooner, Writer’s Digest online where she received first place in the Annual Writing Competition, Santa Monica Review, Narrative online as a finalist in the 30 Contest, Chicago Tribune online as a finalist for the Nelson Algren Award, and Alaska Quarterly Review among others. Her non-fiction has been recognized in Harvard Review and featured as a selected Notable Essay in American Essays. Veltfort is currently completing a novel and a story collection. The novel follows a woman's search for her father, an anonymous sperm donor, while the story collection examines the competing narratives that shape people's lives, focusing on the moments when stories conflict and are misread. Her scholarly research zeroes in on representations of speech and thought in twentieth-century fiction.
