Sophie Larochelle, engineer and Ph.D., is a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering at Université Laval. She is also the director of the strategic grouping Centre d’optique, photonique et lasers (COPL) and the associated research center at Université Laval. Since 2001, she has held a Canada Research Chair focusing on the design of optical fibers and photonic devices and their applications in optical communication systems. Her current research includes silicon-integrated photonic circuits, optical fibers for mode-division multiplexed transmissions, and next-generation fiber optic amplifiers. Over the years, she has advanced knowledge in the fields of photo-inscribed Bragg filters in optical fibers, multifrequency fiber lasers, all-optical signal processing, and optical transmissions using frequency encoding for code-division multiplexing. She regularly leads collaborative and partnered research projects with companies and researchers from Quebec, Canada, and internationally.
