Biography

Sophie studied MSci Chemistry with Industrial Experience at the University of Birmingham, graduating in 2019. From 2016 to 2017, Sophie worked in the R&D polymer industry, focusing on the production and characterization of degradation in polymer backsheets for photovoltaic modules. Her master's thesis centered on transition metal carnallites as lead-free alternatives to perovskites in photovoltaics. In the period from 2019 to 2023, Sophie undertook her PhD focused on Electronic Materials and Interfaces in the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick, where her thesis investigated enhancing electronic materials through chemical treatments of nanoscale dielectrics, earning her the SEM Faculty Thesis prize. In 2023, she began her role as a Research Fellow, and in October 2024, she commenced her Royal Academy Engineering Research Fellowship. Sophie's research interests include silicon photovoltaics, atomic layer deposition, passivation, and the circularity, sustainability, and recyclability of photovoltaics.
