Dr. Sophie Read

Biography

Sophie Read is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Cambridge, specializing in the study of literature from 1640 to 1730. She studied at Queens' College, Cambridge, where she also completed her graduate work. In 2006, she became a fellow at Christ's College, Cambridge, where she has developed her research interests. Her primary research areas include 17th-century devotional poetry and sermons, renaissance rhetoric with a focus on wordplay, poetics, and cognitive linguistics. Importantly, she explores literary representations of the senses, particularly the sense of smell, and has an interest in contemporary poetry associated with the Cambridge School.
