Biography

Sophie Johanna Schweiger joined Yale's Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures as an Assistant Professor in July 2022. She completed her Ph.D. at Columbia University, where her dissertation focused on the role of gestures in literature, film, and performance. Prior to her current position, she worked for a year as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Colgate University from 2021 to 2022. Schweiger has studied at universities in Vienna and Lisbon, and she spent a year as a Fulbright Teaching Assistant at Rutgers University. Her research interests include Drama and Drama Theory, Historical and Political Thought, Media Theory, and New Materialism.
