Biography

Søren Buus is a professor in Immunology at the University of Copenhagen. His research focuses on how the body recognizes disease-causing substances such as viruses, which involves understanding tissue type molecules that activate the immune response. Buus' biomedical research is conducted in collaboration with Professor Mogens H Claesson and Dr. Ole Lund at the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis at DTU. The project aims to decode the thousands of tissue type molecules and identify which protein fragments each of them can recognize as foreign. Buus has made significant contributions to antigen processing presentation and T cell stimulation responses, specifically in biochemistry and immunology. He has generated technologies for matching the enormous diversity of MHC molecules with peptide ligands and has been involved in various international and national multi-center projects. He has created a curriculum for immunology teaching in medicine and has advised numerous Ph.D. students and post-doctoral fellows.
