Biography

Søren Nielsen Skov is an Associate Professor at Aarhus University, working in the Department of Clinical Medicine and the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. His research focuses on optimizing treatment for patients requiring mechanical circulatory support in cardiac surgery and intensive care. Skov is particularly interested in developing advanced monitoring solutions aimed at optimizing treatment while minimizing side effects related to extracorporeal circulation. His academic journey began with a Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2013, followed by a PhD in Experimental Cardiac Surgery in 2017, both from Aarhus University. He also completed a 2-year specialist program in Cardiovascular Technology in 2022, which, together with his clinical experience, underpins his European EBCP certification as a clinical perfusionist. In addition to his research, he teaches courses on extracorporeal circulation and perfusion techniques to engineering students, emphasizing practical clinical understanding. Skov is leading the creation of a new master's program in Cardiovascular Technology, expected to commence in September 2026, and is a member of the scientific committee for the Scandinavian Society for Extracorporeal Circulation (SCANSECT).
