Biography

Søren Henri Taverniers is a Physical Science Research Scientist specializing in Energy Science and Engineering. He earned his Doctorate in Engineering Physics from the University of California San Diego in 2016, following a Master of Science in Engineering Physics in 2012 from the same institution. In 2006, he completed another Master of Science in Physics, specializing in Nuclear Radiation Physics, at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven). Taverniers has been recognized for his academic achievements, including being nominated for the Chancellor’s Dissertation Medal at UC San Diego in 2017. His current research focuses on the design and implementation of novel statistical algorithms utilizing the Multilevel Monte Carlo method to enhance the quantification of uncertainty in multiphase systems and reactive granular media subsurface flows. He is also advancing the development of neural network-based surrogate approaches that facilitate data-driven sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification for multiscale systems related to energy storage, thereby accelerating the design processes for such devices.
