Professor Dr. Søren Thue Thuesen

Biography

Søren Thue Thuesen is an Associate Professor Emeritus at the University of Copenhagen, where he specializes in the study of Greenland's cultural and social processes, particularly through a historical and anthropological lens. His research focuses on significant topics including colonization, decolonization, cultural identity, and the impact of urbanization on local communities in Greenland. Throughout his career, Thuesen has conducted extensive fieldwork in West Greenland and has worked as a museum curator, gaining comprehensive insights into the region's material culture and ethnohistory. He has served in various academic positions, including a head of section for Greenlandic Arctic Studies and has contributed to the scholarly discourse on Eskimology. Thuesen's teaching includes courses on colonial history and the socio-cultural issues of the Arctic, addressing themes of identity and self-determination. He has been actively involved in organizing conferences and has participated in various academic committees.
