Dr. Sorin Fedeles

Biography

Sorin Fedeles is an adjunct faculty member at Yale School of Medicine, focusing on research related to Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD). His work involves leading a basic and translational research program aimed at target identification and validation for drug discovery strategies. Fedeles employs whole-genome CRISPR/Cas9 forward screens combined with single-cell RNA sequencing to uncover new targets for ADPKD. He has developed a proof-of-concept model to examine how ER protein folding affects the progression of ADPKD, particularly concerning Pkd1 missense mutations. Additionally, he has characterized a novel genetic mouse model for tubulo-interstitial kidney disease and initiated collaborations with a bio-engineering group at MIT. Fedeles has co-founded academic spin-outs based on discoveries made at Yale and has successfully led grant applications, securing around $5.2 million in funding from entities like the NIH and the Department of Defense. He is also currently serving as the Executive Director of the Polycystic Kidney Disease Outcomes Consortium at the Critical Path Institute, overseeing efforts in clinical biomarker development and simulation tools for clinical trials.
