Biography

Soroosh Shafiee (Shafieezadeh Abadeh) joined the faculty at Cornell University in July 2023 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Operations Research and Information Engineering. He has previously held positions as a postdoctoral researcher at the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University and at the Automatic Control Laboratory at ETH Zurich. Soroosh holds a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tehran, and he earned his Ph.D. in Operations Research from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). His research focuses on optimization under uncertainty, low-complexity decision-making, and optimal transport. Soroosh's work includes designing new models and algorithms based on (distributionally) robust optimization, statistical computational complexity analyses, and data-driven optimization problems, along with structured nonconvex optimization with applications in machine learning and finance.
