Dr. Sotiria Grek

Biography

An interdisciplinary researcher studying the relationship between knowledge and public policy, Sotiria Grek holds multiple collaborative research grants and has taught extensively, including social science methods. She has mentored numerous early to mid-career researchers and supervised several doctoral studies to completion, while also holding key academic leadership positions. Her research employs qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the interdependency of science, knowledge, and policy in bringing about social change. Grek's PhD focused on the sociological analysis and measurement of adult learning in art administration. She has contributed to a significant body of work analyzing the role of data-driven governance in education across Europe and globally. Her projects include a European Research Council Starting Grant (2017-2022) on the role of international organizations in quantifying global governance, especially in the fields of education and sustainable development. Grek's research has been pivotal in producing rich empirical analyses and novel conceptual frameworks around the relationship between statistical measurement and education governance, as well as the influence of emerging forms of expertise in global education policy.
