Biography

Sougato Bose is a Professor of Physics at University College London. He obtained his PhD with a thesis titled "Entanglement Manipulations Applications" from Imperial College in 2000, where he worked under the supervision of Professor Sir Peter Knight. Having completed his undergraduate studies at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, India, he furthered his academic career as a Junior Research Fellow at St John’s College, Oxford from 1999 to 2002, during which he was part of Artur Ekert's group at the Clarendon Laboratory. He then undertook postdoctoral research at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), USA from 2002 to 2003, working with John Preskill’s group before joining UCL in 2003. Bose has pioneered important advancements in quantum technologies through his research, which includes probing the macroscopic limits of quantum mechanics, entangling atoms in distant cavities, and testing the quantum nature of gravity, among others. His contributions to the field have been recognized with several awards, including the Maxwell Medal Prize from the Institute of Physics in the UK in 2008, and the Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award from 2011 to 2016. He also held the European Research Council Starting Grant from 2012 to 2017.
