Dr. Spencer Sherwin

Biography

Spencer Sherwin is a Professor of Computational Fluid Mechanics in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London. He received his M.S.E and Ph.D. degrees from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Princeton University. His research group focuses on high-order spectral/hp element methods, particularly in the context of fluid flow in complex geometries. His work emphasizes vortical bluff body flows and has applications in biomedical modeling of the cardiovascular system. Sherwin has collaborated with industry partners such as McLaren Racing, Airbus, and Rolls Royce. He is instrumental in developing wall-resolving large eddy simulation techniques for highly unsteady flows and previously held a fellowship with McLaren Racing. He has held various academic positions at Imperial College London since 1995, including roles as Reader and Senior Lecturer, and has served as Head of the Aerodynamics Section and Department. His commitment to advancing research in computational fluid dynamics is evident through his active participation in academic and industrial partnerships.
